We’ve been busily helping homeowners in the area install window air conditioning units and complete other home improvement projects lately. Today we decided to make a short list of things you can do to prepare your home for the next two months of summer in style. And remember, give us a call if we can help you knock out your to-do list.

New Coat of Paint

Freshen up the walls with a new coat of paint for every room. You’ll be amazed at the difference something as simple as painting can make. Need help choosing the best paint colors for your home? Give us a call!

New Window Dressing

New blinds or curtains are an excellent summertime addition to your home. Mini blinds get damaged in time and you may notice a lot of sunshine peeking through broken areas. That sunshine is causing heat and making your air conditioning unit work harder than necessary to maintain a cooler temperature. New blinds will help, and blackout curtains will help as well.

Install a Window Air Conditioner

Window air conditioners are literally lifesavers during the summer months. June has been a hot one so far, but July and August are always hotter. We expect many more three digit days in the coming two months. You may even consider installing an air conditioner in the bedroom as well as in the living room.

Caulk the Windows

A lot of conditioned air escapes through cracks around the windows. If you can put your hands around the window trim and feel a lot of heat, you probably need new caulking around the windows. Now is a great time to do it, because it will dry quite quickly.

New Doorknobs and Locks

Doorknobs get worn, dated, and damaged in time. If you’ve not changed your doorknobs in the last five years, it’s time! You’ll get all new keys, too, so make sure to give new keys to people who need them.

New Decorative Items

Lighten up! Not figuratively – literally. That new coat of paint and new window dressings will only go so far in updating your home’s appearance. Get rid of the drab decor you’ve had sitting around for three years and replace it with something fresh, new, and bright. Dollar stores are an excellent place to find inexpensive decor items that you can switch in and out based on the season.
