Home improvement is something we all have to deal with at some point. Even renters often have to make minor repairs while renting or before the end of their lease. Sometimes you may discover that you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to go into your home from year to year. So today we want to show you how to create your handyman checklist so things don’t get skipped or overlooked. This list will also come in handy if you hire us for your home improvement projects.

Room-by-Room List

One of the best ways to keep track of your yearly maintenance and home improvement schedule is to make a room-by-room list of things to do. Your list may look something like this:

  • Entry Door – Repair and paint the entry door and replace the hardware.
  • Foyer – Repair the drywall and refresh the paint.
  • Living Room – Repair the drywall, refresh the paint, mount the television, update window treatments, and build a built-in bookshelf for storage.
  • Kitchen – Paint or refinish the cabinets, update the hardware, new faucet, caulking, and grouting, install a new range hood or appliances, and add a tile backsplash.
  • Master Suite – Drywall repair and paint, install closet organizers, updated window treatments, custom carpentry, and refinish the bedroom furniture. (Other bedrooms may have similar to-do lists.)
  • Laundry Room – Repair and paint the drywall, clean the dryer vent, install new shelving, and improve organization.
  • Random Things – Assemble flat pack furniture, hang mirrors or artwork, and miscellaneous repairs.

This may seem like a very extensive list, but we can help you organize tasks and knock out the to-do list for each room very quickly. Our half-day handyman service includes a four-hour block with one of our handymen. We can get a lot done in four hours! The Handyman-for-a-Day service includes an entire eight-hour day with one of our handymen.

Seasonal Home Maintenance List

Some home improvement or home maintenance lists never change. You need to clean the exterior of your home at least once a year, for example. You need to make sure the guttering is working properly. You need to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. You may need to install a window air conditioner in the spring and remove it in the fall. Make sure all of your seasonal maintenance is on a list so you don’t forget them.
